Proclamation of Independence memorial Museum Is house in 1912 British villa with Mogul-style domes. The building was once the Melaka Club, a bastion of colonialism. Inside the museum are manuscripts, video tapes, film and slides depicting events leading to Malaysia's Independence in 1957.
	The Portuguese led by Alfonso d'Albuquerque conquered Melaka 1511 & colonized it for 130 years. The Dutch came in 1641 & ruled for 154 years. The British in 1824 ruled until the country gained its independence.
