MT. SUMMIT CLIMB &
PORING HOT SPRING

ITINERARY
DAY 01
Depart on a 2hr, 90km/55mi drive across the spectacular Crocker Range to the ecologically unique environs of Mt. Kinabalu. At Park HQ (1,540m/5000ft), visit the Education Centre and the Botanical Garden to see orchids, rhododendrons, ferns, pitcher-plants, kerosene trees and others. Take a jungle walk near the Park HQ and learn more about the Montane Forest. After lunch, en-route to Poring Hot Springs (10kmn). Trek through a hill dipterocarp forest rich in wild fruit trees and animal life, passing giant bamboos and ginger plants with edible flowers to reach a jungle-canopy walkway 40m above ground. Then relax in open air outdoor tubs filled with hot/cold running mineral waters. Midafternoon, return to Kota Kinabalu. (Indoor tubs optional extra). Overnight at Kinabalu Park Hhostel/ lodges. (Lunch/ Dinner)
DAY 02
Trasfer to Timpohon Gate (1,830m/6,000ft) to begin the trek with your mountain guide. This takes about 5-7 hours, with time out to look at the views, birds, animals, soil and rocks of the various vegetationzones, up to Laban Rata Resthouse or Gunting Langadan. (3,290m/10,700ft). (Fullboard)
DAY 03
Begin final ascent at 3am to greet the dawn at the summit (6am). The stupendous view to be had at 4,0962m/ 23,432ft before the clouds rise is well worth the previous day's exertions; on a clear day, one could almost see all of Sabah. Breakfast at the Resthouse HQ for lunch. Return to Kota Kinabalu (KK) in the afternoon. (Breakfast/ Lunch)
