Ipoh: For the first time, runners from Kenya won the 21km men's and women's open and 10km men's categories at the Ipoh International Run 2007 held at Dataran Ipoh.
Geoffrey Kiproptich Binger, who won the 21km race, said they are more eager now to enter the run in Kuantan scheduled for Aug 18 and 19.
Binger and his countrymen took the top eight spots in the run leaving last year's top two, Boonchoo Jandacha of Thailand and Malaysian R.Muniandy at ninth and tenth spots.
Former national walker Yuan Yu Fang prevented a one-two Kenyan finish in the women's 21km race by coming in second, beating Caroline Jento Kigen by three minutes and 30 seconds. The category was won by Emily Chapkooch Lagat.
The men's 10km category was won by Patrick Kiponio Totich. Coming in second and third were Gilbert Kiptoo Darvel and Sammy Kipchuka Rotich, respectively. Kuala Lumpur runners Vally Michael, S. Sanggetha and A. Amutha swept the top three in the women's 10km category.
The event was the biggest held with a total of 11,348 participants, including 452 from seven foreign countries.
