Tourism Malaysia wins booth honours

BEIJING, June 30 -- Tourism Malaysia won Best Booth Award at the recently concluded Beijing International Travel Exhibition 2007.

According to Tourism Malaysia Beijing director, Michael Tay, the theme used by Tourism Malaysia was One Golden Celebration. It highlights Malaysian's way of celebrating 50 years of nationhood.

"The scattered empty film reels gave visitors the feel of being on a movie filming set, enhanced by the image of the renowned Petronas Twin Towers with the Visit Malaysia 2007 logo in Chinese on the front," he said.

The Tourism Malaysia booth measuring 54 sq m depicted a stylised film roll with colourful pictures of Malaysia in light boxes.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, who was in China for a week-long sales mission to promote Malaysia last week, attended the launching of the three-day exhibition which began on June 21.

News reported from the Star; Malaysia aims to attract one million tourists from China, who in the first quarter of the year had already numbered 174,842.

Last year, there were 439,294 tourist arrivals from China, up from 352,089 in 2005.
