"A cultural reminiscence of the beginning of Georgetown. Penang"
Penang has many kongsi, especially in the inner city of Georgetown. A kongsi is a clan house. The building is partly a temple and partly a meeting hall for Chinese of the same clan or surname.
The temple at Yap Kongsi is dedicated to the patron deity of the Yap Clan. The adjoining building, which is marked 1924, keeps the ancestral tablets of the Yap Clan.
