"I had the opportunity to drive thru this bridge in 1989. There were soldiers who regulated l the flow of vehicles from either side of the bridge. No vehicle was allowed when there is a train coming. This was before the completion of the bridge linking Tanah Merah and Machang. It was a real experience. "
