The state capital for Johor is Johor Bahru. After the fall of Johor Lama (Old Johor) as the old seat of power for the Johor Sultanate around 1587, Johor Bahru emerged circa 1885 under the rule of Sultan Abu Bakar. Today Johor Bahru is one of the biggest cities in Malaysia.
Johor Bahru is the gateway for visitors from Malaysia to get to Singapore either via road, rail or ferry. Ferry terminals you might want to keep in mind includes the Stulang Duty Free Trade Zone and the Kukup Ferry terminals. The airport serving Johor Bahru is known as the Sultan Ismail International Airport, located just slightly north of Johor Bahru. The Johor Tourist Information Centre (JOTIC, Tel: 607-2242000) is located near the Royal Museum, next to Johor Bahru High Court along Jalan Tun Dr. Ismail.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (Tel: 03-2267 1200) provides several train passages daily to Johor Bahru.
