ZOO NEGARA

"With some 5,000 animals from over 400 species of mammals, amphibians, birds, reptiles and fish, Zoo Negara is considered as one of the most exciting zoos in Southeast Asia. The zoo also has an impressive aquarium display, a primate park and a reptile house."

Zoo Negara is the first national zoo in Malaysia. It was opened in 1963. Until now, the Zoo is owned and operated by the Malaysian Zoological Society. It has a collection of a wide range of animals from all over the world. Besides showcasing the animals, the Zoo emphasized on these four main areas - Conservation, Education, Research and Recreation. The zoo is a valuable resource for all visitors from within Malaysia and overseas.

Zoo Negara (The National Zoo) is located in Hulu Kelang about 13km from Kuala Lumpur. The zoo houses some 5,000 animals from over 400 species including birds, fish, mammals and reptiles.
It is particularly popular during weekends and public holidays. Besides just watching the animals, there are performances by orangutans and sea lions as well.

Latest attractions :

  1. Tunku Abdul Rahman Aquarium is now open for public viewing. The aquarium is the first ecological-based freshwater aquarium in the country highlighthing the Malaysian River and Wetlands.
  2. Sea Lions, macaques and macaws are part of the Multi-Animal Show. (Show time : Daily at 11.00am & 3pm)
  3. Free train rides and guided tours on weekends.
  4. Amphibian World is now open for public viewing. The latest attraction at the Reptile Park houses frogs and toads of Malaysia.
  5. Mini Bee Museum is located at the heart of Zoo Negara and is where you can learn about the many types of bees in the country.
  6. Birds Photo Corner at the Bird Aviary, which is open on weekends is the best place to take souvenir photos of you and your family along with their colourful macaws and cockatoos.
  7. Multi-Animal Photo Corner located by the zoo's main entrance, which opens on weekends as well is also the place to be. Come and have your shot taken with snakes, miniature horses and birds!

The spacious picnic grounds around the boating lake are excellent for family recreation. Other facilities available within the 25ha ground are restaurants and mini-train rides.

The Zoo opens daily from 9am - 5pm.

Adults without MyKad: RM35
Children (3-12 years) with MyKid: RM9
Children (3-12 years) without MyKid: RM18
Senior Citizen (above 60 years) with MyKad: RM9
Senior Citizen (above 60 years) without MyKad: RM35

Entrance not inclusive of Insect Zoo and Butterfly Park:

Adults with MyKad: RM20
Adults without MyKad: RM30
Children (3-12 years) with MyKid: RM6
Children (3-12 years) without MyKid: RM15
Senior Citizen (above 60 years) with MyKad: RM6
Senior Citizen (above 60 years) without MyKad: RM30

Admission is free for the handicapped.

Getting There
By Bus
If you opt for public transportation, take Intrakota Bus No 20 from Central Market, a No 170 bus from Jalan Ampang, or a No 17 bus from Jalan Raja Laut in the Chow Kit area.
By Taxi
From the city centre, the best way to get to Zoo Negara is to board the PURTA LRT, disembarking at Wangsa Maju station. From here, you can catch a cab to Zoo Negara.
By Rail
Take the PUTRA LRT at Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station, disembarking at Wangsa Maju station. From there, PUTRA Line Feeder Buses provide shuttle service every half an hour beginning at 9.30 am and ends at 7.00 pm to Zoo Negara every Sundays and Public Holidays.

If you plan to drive, the Zoo is located about 13km from Kuala Lumpur city centre, along Jalan Hulu Kelang, which is accessible through Jalan Ampang.
