"
As Kelantan sits on the fringes of Thailand’s south, some of its cuisine bears strong influences. Tom Yam, Som Tam, Kerabu and Mieng Kam are some of the popular Thai dishes usually associated with Kelantan food. However we have chosen five most delightful cuisines you have to try when you are in Kelantan. They are Laksam, Ayam Percik, Nasi Kerabu, Tepung Pelita and Solok."
1. Laksam
The Laksam is the Kelantan version of laksa, only that it is a lot milder. The whitish Laksam is traditionally cooked with eel as the eel adds to the flavour of the stock and lends it a smooth texture. The Laksam is a dish of discs of rice flour cakes, appreciated with sliced cucumber, chopped polygonum and torch ginger and crunchy bean sprout with chilli sambal on the side.
2. Ayam Percik
Ayam percik a popular Kelantan dish is actually chicken marinated with spicy coconut gravy and cooked traditionally over a charcoal fire. It is served as a special dish for the family members or special guests. It tastes rather sweet than spicy, with strong coconut milk smell. It is usually prepared by grilling chicken, parts or whole, over fire with intermittent sprinkling of the percik sauce on the chicken such that when the chicken gets cooked a pasty layer of sauce with distinct smoke flavour cover both sides of the chicken.
3. Nasi Kerabu
For the Nasi Kerabu, a variety of local herbs and vegetables is tossed and mixed in the turmeric rice and enjoyed with Ayam Percik. Nasi Kerabu can also be savoured with Roast Beef, Ikan Percik or Gulai Ikan Tongkol. Nasi Kerabu is available in three colours – yellow, which is cooked with turmeric; blue, which is cooked with Butterfly Pea Flower; and the plain white variety. The Solok Lada, a dish of green chilli stuffed with minced fish and grated coconut, went pretty well with spoonfuls of Nasi Kerabu.
4. Nasi Kerabu
This delicacy is based on flour, coconut milk and sugar. It has two layers. The first layer is coconut milk and for the second layer is flour and sugar. It is put into banana leaf, which has been made as its cup.
5. Solok
Solok is usually eaten with nasi kerabu and there are two types of solok - solok lada (chilli solok) and solok ikan (fish solok). Solok is made from combining fish meat and grated coconut (and some other ingredient and spices), then fried (for solok ikan) or steamed (for solok lada).
