The park is one of the newest recreational spots in Kuching. It is built to commemorate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries; the RM12million Park is tastefully designed in the styles of both Malaysia and China.
It exudes peace and calm with its large man-made pond, neat paths and beautifully landscaped gardens as well as some striking architectural features.
At the main entrance on Jalan Song, visitors enter through an archway with hornbills' sculptures on either side, which leads into the Malaysian part of the park. You can find the Malaysian murals comprising 14 stone panels - one for each state and the Federal Territories - as well as an embossed stone map of Sarawak.
The carved murals depict well-known landmarks and images associated with each state, such as wau bulan for Kelantan, a padi field for Kedah, hornbills for Sarawak and Mount Kinabalu for Sabah.
A futuristic Sarawak Fountain, comprising seven pillars, arranged in a circle, reaching up from the ground towards one another. The pillars feature granite carvings of the seven major ethnic groups in Sarawak - Malay, Chinese, Iban, Melanau, Penan, Orang Ulu and Bidayuh - in a celebration of unity and harmony.
Pavilions at the park are built in the style of the Bidayuh baruk (round house) and the gardens are planted with hibiscus. Towering over the park is the hard-to-miss giant stature of Admiral Zheng Ho which stands on the ship-like platform over the pond.
The park also has two wishing wells, a zigzag bridge across the pond and a "Friendship Globe" which marks the Malaysia-China Friendship Year in 2004.
