"This boulder strewn shady beach is today a major attraction for campers and birdwatchers. Used to be a sanctuary to the locals during war."
This lagoon has a rather interesting story to tell. Tanjung Pelindung, which generally means, Refugee's Lagoon, got its name when the Japanese troops landed at Teluk Tongkang in Kuantan, during World War II. The frightened villagers fled their homes and took refuge at a hidden jungle by the coast; hence, the name Tanjung Pelindung.
Today, this scenic boulder strewn, shady beach is well known amongst campers and bird watchers.
