GETTING THERE
By Bus
Buses leave frequently from Johor Bahru's Larkin Bus Terminal (on Jalan Garuda) to Kota Tinggi's bus terminal on Jalan Niaga Utama. Contact GP Express at Tel: 607-2248662.
From the North South Expressway (NSE), take the Kulai exit (Interchange 252) onto the trunk road heading towards Kota Tinggi (Highway 94 and 3). Tanjung Balau is about half an hour's drive from Kota Tinggi town centre.
Tanjung Balau Fishermen Museum
" Located five kilometres north of Desaru, this museum was developed by the South Johor Development Authority (KEJORA), as part of its development project in the fishing village of Tanjung Balau. Fishing has been a major economic source for the seafarers of Kota Tinggi district since long ago and the abundance of it found in the South China Sea has supported them for generations."

Do you know how to forecast areas and concentration of fish just by looking at the colour of the sea water or just by looking at the moon? Apparently these were techniques used by traditional fishermen especially in the Malaysian east coast. Visit this Fishermen Museum if you want to know more about these ancient fishing techniques.

Located five kilometres north of Desaru, Tanjung Balau Fishermen Museum was developed by the South Johor Development Authority (KEJORA), as part of its development project in the fishing village of Tanjung Balau. The museum that costs about RM1.5 million is built on a 9.7-hectare land in 1992. It has a main building that serves as a gallery, four small rest areas and a souvenir shop.

The museum displays various artefacts used by fishermen such as fishing traps, tackles and various types of floats, and replicas of the fishermen's catch according to the equipment used. There are also traditional boats and rafts exhibited. Besides that, visitors may also learn about local taboos, beliefs and superstitions related to the sea.

- kurator muzium nelayan.."
