Sungai Yak Yah is rich with fascinating flora and fauna. Few know that the place is a haven for fireflies. Most tourists are familiar to the one in Kampung Kuantan or Belimbing in Kuala Selangor. But to this newly found attraction located in the district of Kemaman in Terengganu is something worth exploring. The berembang trees, 'home' or natural habitat to fireflies, grow in abundance in the area.
Sungai Yak Yah is just 11km Chukai town while from the famous resort of Awana Kijal is only 20km.
Among the facilities available are boats for visitors for river the river cruise, a concrete jetty to embark, a slide way for the physically challenged, public toilets and prayer room (surau) for Muslims. There are also ample parking spaces for visitors.
To facilitate visitors; there are signboards to indicate direction from Chukai town to Sungai Yak Yah. For those who can't find their way to the place, they can always call the operator to fetch them from Chukai town.
