"
Ever wonder what does Sekinchan, in Chinese, means? A hint to help - it is recognised as one of the major rice suppliers in Malaysia. "
Background:
A little town in the middle of the main rice-bowl in the Sabak Bernam district, there is more to Sekinchan than an area of massive paddy field – it’s quite famous for seafood as well.
Meaning 'a village that is suitable for plantation' in Chinese, the area is also well known for its mechanised farming methods and high yield of rice.
Activities:
Visit the rice factory, and satisfy your curiousity from wondering how the paddy is harvested and processed into becoming rice.
Visitors are able to see large plots of land cultivated to produce the staple food of Malaysians. While relaxing the eyes on the beautiful, green scenery of the paddy field, watch the farmers at their work – gathering and harvesting the crops and take plenty of photos to take home.
As Sekinchan is also known as a fishing village, you can either indulge in plenty of seafood offerings, or even buy some fresh ones to take home.
Sekinchan mangoes are also famous for their sweetness and sourness (depending on one’s preferences), so buy some tasty ones on your way back!
Pay a visit to Kuala Selangor, as the famous Bukit Melawati is just nearby.
Accommodation:
To fully appreciate the charms of small town life, you can stay over at the Sungai Hj. Dorani homestay nearby. Other than that, there’s also the Harbour View Hotel (+603-32418868).
How to get there:
It’s either than you hop on a bus or taxi, or drive following the NKVE and take the Sungai Buloh exit and proceed towards Kuala Selangor. After passing by towns like Kuala Selangor and Tanjung Karang, the whole greenery of the paddy field is a sign that you are reaching Sekinchan.
