Towards the north and northwest of Tasik Temenggor lies a vast area of virgin jungle known as Royal Belum State Park. This pristine forest is excellent for trekking, bird watching and animal sightings. It was out of bounds to visitors until recently, but permission has to be sought to enter the forest as it is still a security area.
Nevertheless, Royal Belum State Park is of great interest to ecologists, conservationalists and nature enthusiasts. Covering an area of 134,167ha, several expeditions including one by Malaysian Nature Society in 1993, found the place to contain new and unknown species of tress and insects.
Visitors who gain entry into this forest will agree that this is one of the best places natural destinations.

"The Royal belum State Park is not noted to be a good place for bird-watching. However the Lower Belum/Hutan Temenggor has the distinction of having all the known species of Hornbills in Malaysia, more than what is known to exist in Sarawak. Ask the MNS Bird-watching Group. "
