"Find out more about the habits and habitats of this riverine terrapin, a freshwater species of tortoise also known as Batagur Baska."
The River Terrapin Breeding Centre is located at Bota Kanan, about 40km from Ipoh, and is managed by the Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (PERHILITAN).
Here visitors can see the hatcheries and find out more about the habits and habitats of this riverine terrapin (Batagur baska). Females lay eggs in the wild, usually between November and March; the eggs are buried along sandy stretches on riverbanks for protection and the warmth required for incubation and hatching.
There are also chalets available for visitors who want to stay overnight.
