The Portuguese Square, or Medan Portugis, is located 3km east of town. The best way to get there and back is by taxi.
Portuguese Square
"
Set up in 1938 by the British, this Portugese Settlement is the centre of Portugese culture in Melaka."
Situated at the south of Melaka city, it has been home for numerous Portugese Eurasians in Melaka, mostly descendents resulting from mixed marriages between the colonial Portugese and Malays about 400 years back.
Weekends are busy and festive as oodles of cultural events including dances and music are performed for the visitors then. You can enjoy plenty of good authentic portugese delicacies inside the square, while enjoying the sunset view at the Straits of Melaka.
