History
When it was first built, the original building of the Penang State Museum was initially served as the Penang Free School. In 1927, the building was vacated when the school was moved to its present location in Green Lane. The building structure was badly damaged in World War II and had to undergo extensive reconstruction. It wasn't until 1965 that the Penang State Mustum was opened to the public for the first time.
