Pemanggil Island
"
The island is a fisherman's best-kept secret. Its other magnetic charms include endless stretches of white sandy beaches and awesome snorkeling spots."
Pemanggil island, situated south of Tioman, requires a 4 to 5 hours ride by boat from Mersing - the jump-off point from the mainland Johor. The island is a fisherman's best-kept secret. It is well known for deep sea fishing and has good hunting grounds for marlins - black ones if you're fortunate - and mackerels. Its other magnetic charms include endless stretches of white sandy beaches and awesome snorkeling spots. Although still unknown to many, this remote island is famous for its beauty and abundance of marine life within its clear emerald waters.
On the north-eastern coast of Pemanggil Island is Teluk Lancang, an isolated bay where coconut trees grow in abundance admist the tropical vegetation. At the heart of the island, there is a huge boulder known locally as Batu Buau which locals regard as sacred - a landmark that will not go unnoticed as it is clearly visible from as far as 50km from the south of Tioman Island.
When it comes to accommodation, back to basics and rustics are the answers. For the adventurous, the hilly outcrop of the island offers a challenging rock climbing expedition and the summit holds a scene of the incredible beauty of the open sea.
From an aerial view, the island looks like a bird or a bat resting with its wings outstretched. Its calm and quiet ambiance makes it the perfect choice for those who dream of a relaxing and laid back vacation.
Teluk Resang beach in Mersing, Johor is normally subjected to rough waves and wind. But the sombre tone of the sand which matches the wild nature of this spot makes it a popular destination.
A tranquil lowland and shady forest with crystal clear river water, this forest lies 17km from Mersing and 22km from Endau along the Mersing - Endau road.
The old name of the beach is Pantai Pasir Lanun (Pirates' Sandy Beach) because pirates chose the beach as their hideout due to its calm coast and the availability of fresh water.
