Ore Bridge
" It was built by the British, but was later used by the Japanese when they occupied Malaya (1941-1945) to tranport iron ore."

Yet another remnant of World War II, Jambatan Bijih (Ore Bridge) in the village of Jubakar Village, in Tumpat, Kelantan, was built by the British, but was later used by the Japanese when they occupied Malaya (1941-1945). The Japanese troops used this bridge upon which lays right by beach in Tumpat, to transport iron ore onboard ships headed to Japan.

The production and processing of ore was supervised by Japanese troops during their occupation, in Bukit Besi, Temangan, an area which is now the Temangan primary school. This production continued after the Japanese surrendered. However, in 1965, as production of tin ore declined, this bridge was no longer used have fallen into a state of disrepair.

What remains of Jambatan Bijih can still be seen at the beach near Tumpat town. For more information, please contact the Kota Bharu Tourist Information Centre at 609-7485534.
