 What's On

 1. Islanders Music Dance Festival Langkawi 2008

"From any part of Langkawi, you will notice the majestic Gunung Raya, which soars 881 metre above sea level, thus making it the highest peak in Langkawi."

Standing at 881m, Gunung Raya is the highest peak on Langkawi Island. You can see this mountain from almost any part of Langkawi island.

The view from the top of Gunung Raya is spectacular as it allows you an unhindered view of most of Langkawi island. The paddy field of Padang Matsirat resembles a green carpet while tiny specks of white objects that are seen gliding and floating on the sea are actually ferries and ships. On a clear day, you can even see southern Thailand and Gunung Jerai in Kedah.

This peak is also one of the favourite spots for a quiet escape for Malaysia's former Prime Minister, Tun Datuk Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. He could be seen driving his four-wheel drive vehicle himself, up to Gunung Raya where he enjoys the peace amidst the wilderness while sipping his favourite Sanka coffee.

There is also a teahouse, an art gallery and a small museum here. For more information, please contact the Langkawi Tourist Information Centre at +604-9667789.
