Menara Kuala Lumpur
"
The Kuala Lumpur Tower (KL Tower or Menara KL) which looms majestically at a height of 421m above sea level, is more than just a prominent and arresting landmark. It is the world's fifth tallest communication and multimedia broadcasting tower to date, as well as a novel composition of retail, leisure, and entertainment hub - including the world's highest McDonalds."
Built and launched in 1996 by YAB Dato Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the slender tower sits atop the Bukit Nanas forest reserve - right at the heart of Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle. Construction of the tower was carefully planned to ensure that development had no adverse impact to the Bukit Nanas natural environment. No expenses were spared in the conservation efforts as can be attested by the building of the RM430,000 retaining wall around a 100-year old Jelutong Tree (Dyera Costulata) to preserve the ancient tree.
The delightful "Muqarnas" architectural design of the overall tower, the detailed Arabic Scripts, Islamic floral and abstract motifs symbolises the country's Islamic heritage.
The observation deck provides visitors with a breathtaking 360-degrees view of the city and the revolving restaurant gives gastronomical satisfaction, both to the eyes and the palate, while the enchanting pedestrian mall provide an ambience of serenity amidst a natural tropical rainforest.
KL Tower opens daily from 9am-10pm. Admisson fee is RM15 (Adults), RM13 (Senior Citizens) and RM9 (Children 4-12 years).
With the shouts "Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!" on August 31 1957, Dataran Merdeka was where the Malayan flag was hoisted for the first time in the country's history upon gaining independence from the British rule.
"Tengok Kuala Lumpur Tower, memanglah terkenang sangat2. Di-sinilah dan di-tempat inilah membawa kenangan manis kami berdua (suami isteri) menyambut "Hari Ulang Tahun Perkahwinan kami yg KeTiga Puluh Tahun." di-kemuncak menara yg tertinggi ini. Memang menarik." by makcikjamilah
