Marak Hill
" Marak Hill is located about 20km east of Kota Bharu. According to oral historical accounts, the legendary Cik Siti Wan Kembang - a renowned female ruler in her time - once lived here in 1605."

Marak Hill is a site associated by many with the legendary Cik Siti Wan Kembang and Puteri Saadong. Cik Siti Wan Kembang was a ruler of the region in the 17th century, and is famed for her legendary beauty and wisdom. According to a historical account, Cik Siti Wan Kembang once lived in Marak Hill when Pengkalan Datu became an important harbour in 1605.

Puteri Saadong, a princess whom Cik Siti Wan Kembang took in after the demise of the princess' father, is also renowned in Kelantanese heritage. Puteri Saadong was believed to have been betrothed to Raja Abdullah by Cik Siti Wan Kembang. It was believed that Puteri Saadong lived at Marak Hill after her husband, Raja Abdullah passed away in 1761. TheKota Mahligai (Mahligai Fort) which was the seat of power at that time was granted to Raja Abdul Rahim who was enthroned as Raja Abdullah’s successor.

There are many differing stores and legends associated with both Cik Sit Wan Kembang and Puteri Saadong. It is said that while she was in Marak Hill, Puteri Saadong was much loved by her people because of her compassionate nature. She often received audiences from the people who come to express their unhappiness of Raja Abdullah’s despotism. She was distressed by this fact that she become a recluse in Ayam Mountain.

Until today evidence of the existence of legendary Puteri Saadong can still be found, among others, traces of her palace within which there is a graveyard of her followers.

Marak Hill is located in Bachok, about 20km southeast of Kota Bharu. For more information, please contact the Kota Bharu Tourist Information Centre at +609-7485534.

"Marak Hill is a good place but there is not much attraction around. I visited the hill 3 years ago and i found there is much facilities that need to be improved such as tourist's toilet, accomodation, signage etc.Overall, the website is really useful. It is kind of hard to find a website that give a full information about the destination. Most of them just use demarketing. "
