"
Lasir Waterfall is magnificent. From a distance, it looks gentle and unassuming. Mild, even. But as you draw closer, the real Lasir is revealed."
A majestic 500m drop over multiple tiers complete with a suspension bridge will take your breath away.
A 30-45 minute boat ride will get you to the falls which is located 16km south of Pengkalan Gawi.
Many people will stop at the second rest point where the suspension bridge is located. There is a large waist-deep natural pool formed by huge boulders which is perfect for swimming and a shelter where one can have picnics in.
The atmosphere is scenic and repose, but I strongly urge you to clamber onwards and upwards the steep steps leading to the third and fourth rest stop. The climb is rather long (about 15 minutes or so on an easy going pace) and strenuous but it’s worth it.
The third stop is rather dangerous and there is a sign to caution one from going further as there are no railings that can break your fall should you slip from the steep banks.
The fourth stop is the one you should go to as there is a lookout tower that overlooks the 5 levels of Lasir Waterfall and beyond. There, the suspension bridge looks miniscule and your friends who chose to stop there appear as ants. The distant cascading waters, blue skies and verdant forest makes for a pretty postcard picture.
If you still have some chutzpah left, climb onwards to the final rest point upon which camp sites have been erected. The sound of rushing waters and gentle flowing river over lovely rocks will make your camping experience an unforgettable one. However, at this point of writing, there is no supply of water in the restrooms which makes the camping idea unfeasible for now.
