Langkawi is an ancient group of islands located on the northwestern shore of Peninsular Malaysia. Captive imaginations are brought forth by the island's rich heritage of myths and legends that permeates from her existence.

From orges and gigantic birds; valiant warriors and fairy princesses; fierce battles and romances and the curse of and innocent maiden among other transcends down from generations making Langkawi a spellbinding tourist destination.

Langkawi has 99 magical islands to be explored. Each with a beauty and attraction of it's own.  The island has a size of 47 848 hectare which is covered by two thirds by mountains and tropical rain forest.

The distance to "Kuala Perlis" on the mainland is 30 km, to "Kuala Kedah" 51 and to the Island "Penang" 105 km.

Langkawi is split into 6 districts: Mukim Kuah, Padang Matsirat, Ayer Hangat, Bohor, Ulu Melaka and Kedawang. At January 1st 1987 Langkawi was declared as a free port.

With its natural beauty, sandy white beaches and clear tropical water is a paradise for sun, nature and sea lovers. It is a perfect place for those who wish to escape from the city to enjoy a relaxing, refreshing, back to nature holiday.

"I love Langkawi becoz i think it has sooo much to offer tourist and visitors. Although I personally think that the authority can work better on the cleanliness of the island. Its a wonderful island getaway. I especially love the thrilling ride on the cable car on top of Gg. Raya & Mat Cincang. Simply gorgeous !!"   by ayeesha
