Gunung Mat Chincang is located on the northwest portion of Pulau Langkawi. At its peak, travellers are rewarded with breathtaking 360 degree view over valleys, bays, lagoons and as far off as the distant islands in Thailand. The massive mountain range is estimated to be 450-550 million years old consisting of exquisite rock formations with unique ecological habitats for various species of flora and fauna. At such a ripe old age, Gunung Mat Chincang takes the centre piece in the recent attempt by the government for Pulau Langkawi to be accorded a UNESCO Geopark status. It is a definite must-see in Langkawi.
To get up to the peaks, you can take the cable cars from the base station at the Oriental Village. The return cable car ticket costs RM15 per adult with myKad and RM25 for foreigners.
If you are driving in Pulau Langkawi, the cable car station is situated very near to Burau Bay. There are ample signs that will guide you from Langkawi International Airport or Kuah town to Teluk Burau, from which you will need to look out for the sign into the Oriental Village.
The cable car operates from 10 am to 8 pm daily. Do take note that operation may be curtailed in extreme weather.
