"This memorial is living proof of British influence in local history and this structure was erected near the Kuala Klawang Mosque at Bukit Undang."
This memorial is living proof of British influence in local history. Situated about a kilometre from Kuala Klawang, this structure was erected near the Kuala Klawang Mosque at Bukit Undang. This 19th century memorial was a co-operative effort by the Malays, Javanese, Chinese, Indians, Eurasians and aborigines as a symbol of their loyalty to the British under the sovereign of Her Royal Highness, the Queen of England.
On the surface of this rostrum-shaped stone is an inscription declaring this 'loyalty'. Situated on a hill, visitors will have to climb several steps to reach this stone structure. Going on a clear day would be an added bonus, as you will have a bird's-eye view of the whole town of Kuala Klawang from atop this hill. Close to the memorial is a water hole and tunnel, remains of the Japanese era, as it was here that they got their water supply, and took hiding during the battles of World War II.
Looking through the mirror of history, this memorial has a huge significance. The fact is that it is built on Bukit Undang, it is a symbol of loyalty to the British Empire and located near it are traces of Japanese occupation. The combination of this three elements testifies the importance of the Kuala Klawang memorial in Negeri Sembilan history.
