"
Get closer to the heart of Minangkabau culture and traditions. Kampung Lonek is one of several homestay destinations Negeri Sembilan has to offer!"
If there's one thing that Negeri Sembilan is famous for is it's masak lemak cili padi, a hot and spicy dish using coconut milk and the infamous small yet head-blowing chillies. Like the cili padi, Kampung Lonek may seem small, with only 151 homes, but the experience you'll get from staying with one of the homestay hosts here will pack quite a punch.
Although not every family in Kampung Lonek is involved with the homestay programme, everyone in the village participates and supports the programme in other ways. The moment you arrive at the village, the welcome extended by the village folks warms your hearts. Even the young children are excited at your arrival.
Kampung Lonek, once a champion for the K3P most beautiful village competition, is home to a group of industrious folks who work the paddy fields, tend to fruit orchards and run several small industries producing handicrafts made of rattan, pandan, mengkuang and bamboo. There is also a small industry producing soy sauce, chilli sauce as well as a local delicacy made of soy bean, called tempe. Some of these products are produced at home, whilst others are housed in small, mini-factories in the village.
The folks in Kampung Lonek are used to receiving visitors, and are more than happy to spend time chatting with you, and tell you all about Kampung Lonek. Among the activities you'll come across includes the berendoi ceremony, a traditional ceremony to celebrate the first week of a baby's life. The fee for the homestay programme is between RM60 to RM100 a night, depending on the homestay Package you choose.
