Kampung Kuantan Fireflies
"
Kampung Kuantan is well known, both locally and internationally, for its unique heritage of the twinkling fireflies on mangrove tree species, called berembang."
Witness one of nature's wonders in Kampung Kuantan, an agricultural village located nine km from Kuala Selangor town. This village is well known with the incandescent glow of fireflies. As your boat or sampan gently guides you down the river, you will discover the answer to this ancient mystery of nature. It has many "hinggapan" fireflies locations. It is said that there are only two places in the world that hold fireflies mysterious wonders and one of them is Kampong Kuantan.
Today, Kampung Kuantan is well known, both locally and internationally, for its unique heritage of the twinkling fireflies on mangrove tree species, called berembang. The "Berembang Tree" or known by its scientific name 'Sonneratia Caselaris' is a type of mangrove tree that grows wildly along the banks of Sungai Selangor. It needs a damp and swampy environment to live. "Berembang Tree" is important to the existence of these fireflies as it provides food for these insects. The fireflies will suck the juice from the leaves as food.
Price: 1 boat - RM40 for 4 pax (RM10 per pax)
Operating hours: 7pm - 11pm (not encouraged to take boat rides when it rains as the fireflies would seek shelter in the Berembang trees and may not appear).
Also known as Bukit Tabur, this hill is rich in historical background, especially its fort which was built by local Malays during the reign of Sultan Ibrahim, the second Sultan of Selangor (1778-1826).

The whole area, which included other early settlements like Jeram, about 16km to Permatang, on the other side of Sungai Selangor (Selangor River), was under the rule of the Malacca Empire and, later, the Johor Empire.
"I really enjoy my trip there but i am a bit dissapointted because there is too many mosquitoes along the journey. So I suggest the management could provide some kind of insect repellent to protect the visitors during the trip along the river."
