In the southern edge of Johor Bahru city, facing Selat Tebrau, lays the palace grounds. Perched on high grounds here is Istana Bukit Serene (Serene Hill Palace), with a 35m tower, providing one of the major landmarks for visitors in Johor Bahru.
Completed in 1938, Istana Bukit Serene is the official residence of His Majesty The Sultan of Johor. The palace grounds contain one of the most beautiful gardens in Johor and is guarded by His Majesty's personal military, the Johor Military Forces.

By Plane
Malaysia Airlines (Tel: 1 300 88 300) provides several daily flights to Johor Bahru. Optionally you can also use AirAsia (Tel: 1 300 88 9933) which provides daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru.
By Rail
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (Tel: 03-2267 1200) provides several train passages daily to Johor Bahru.
Johor Bahru is linked to major cities in the north, including Kuala Lumpur, by the North-South Expressway (NSE). Istana Bukit Serene is located towards the west of Johor Bahru city centre, near Lagun Puteri along Selat Tebrau (Tebrau Straits). Jalan Kolam Air and Jalan Straits View passes around the palace grounds.
