Gemas, Negeri Sembilan is a small town about 50km south of Kuala Lumpur. Since the existence of the Gemas railway station 1922, it is very well known as the 'railway junction'. The station is a major landmark to many who wants to visit the place.
Gemas, consisting of four villages – Kampung Ladang, Kampung Ulu Ladang, Kampung Bangka Hulu and Kampung Londah, has 26 houses in total that are involved in the homestay programme. These villages have been involved in this homestay programme since 2006.
The extraordinary element about this homestay is that it dwells in extreme sport activities. Strategically located near Muar River, Kampung Ulu Ladang surprises the participants of the homestay programme with a selection of fun-filled activities. Participants will have the opportunity to get involved and understand the Malay culture better as the foster families are very active themselves.
Among the activities that Homestay Gemas offers are kayaking, soccer match at the paddy field, jungle trekking, cave exploring and interactive village games that requires lots of skills and strategies. These interactive activities are to get participants ready for an adventurous memorable journey at the Homestay Gemas. There are matches where participants need to work as a team to climb an oily pole and seize the grand prize that is at the top of the pole. Other games also equally push for maximum energy especially when the match needs them to run, roll, and tow. While at it, participates will also enjoy the local traditional dance, Endang and Tarian Piring, the local delicacies.
Indulge also in the traditional Minangkabau wedding that will be conducted with the involvement of the participants followed by a wedding feast. This Negeri Sembilan's traditional wedding has a unique feature. The bride and groom are carried to the wedding hall on a decorated chair that is built with bamboo shoots. Before the soon-to-be-married couples are carried in, there are martial arts performances by the old-timers followed by the wedding procession.
Other entertainments the Homestay Gemas offers include soccer match at the paddy field. A portion of the 150ha paddy field, serves as a privilege to the participants to have a friendly match. The ladies however, will take on the role of cheerleaders or take a stroll to the nearby Muar River for a quick dip.
During the jungle trekking expedition, you will also discover rubber trees and have the chance to rubber tap the trees with the assistance of the well versed rubber tappers.
Homestay Gemas is about 15 to 20 minutes drive from the renowned Gemas railway station. There are buses and cab services available at the stop. The homestay package includes discounts from KTMB.
