Introduction
Stretching over 1.9km, Gua Tempurung is believed to have been a shelter for prehistoric communities in the 8000 BC, and is probably the largest of such natural limestone underground cavity in the country. Located in Gopeng, about 25km south of Ipoh, it is made up of five huge domes which ceilings resemble coconut shells, hence the name tempurung came abut. With each dome having different formations of stalagmites and stalactites, they also differ from one another in temperature, water level, content of limestone and marble.
Site activities
There are a several guided tours for visitors to choose. The short tours provide basic information of the cave and are suitable for those who don't wish to with little time to spare. A walkway and platforms offer visitors' the convenience and safety.
For the more adventurous, longer excursions will definitely satisfy their curiosity. The tours normally take 2 to 3.5 hours through an underground river and finishes at the other end. You will be able to see various stalactite and stalagmite formations, many of which are still growing. Some even resemble certain figures and beings, depending on your imagination.
From the Golden Flowstone Cavern, Gergasi (Giant) Cavern, Tin Mine Cavern, Alam (Universe) Cavern to Fallen Warrior and Battlefield Cavern, each dome has its own peculiar features – all you have to do is just explore!
There are several cave tours, and some are:
1. Golden Flowstone Tour:
-An easy and exciting tour of about 40 minutes. A journey from the entrance to the golden Flowstone (Platform 2) and back. Entrance fee: adult-RM6.00 and children (below 12 yrs) RM2.50
2. Grand Tour
-A complete catwalk journey from the entrance with full-length underground river adventure. It is a very challenging and strenuous tour, and takes about 3 hours and 30 minute. Entrance fee: adult-RM22.00 and children-RM11.00

Fret not, as Gua Tempurung, being one of the major tourist attractions in Perak, provides a few basic facilities, which include:

How to get there?
Located in Lembah Tempurung near Gopeng, Perak, Gua Tempurung is reachable via the North-South PLUS Expressway. Take the Gopeng exit, and from there, turn left (southwards), heading towards Kampar. A further 5 km drive up ahead, then turn left and go up a further 2 km to reach Gua Tempurung.
