The Colonial Hotel at No. 39-45 Jalan Sultan was very popular with non-Europeans in the 1930s. Situated close to the Sultan Street Railway Station, the Hotel was listed in the Malaya Directory, 1959 as a first class boarding house. Well-known singers were brought in from Hong Kong to entertain. The Hotel was owned by Tong Ah and Company.
