Located at the Pasir Gudang Recreational Park, Bukit Layang-Layang is the official site for the annual Pasir Gudang World Kite Festival (Festival Layang-Layang Sedunia), attracting hundreds and thousands of visitors and kiting enthusiasts from all over the world."
The World Kites Festival (Festival Layang-Layang Sedunia), being one of the official events in the Tourism Johor calendar, is a platform for both kite lovers to showcase their cultures to others through their kites.

Up in the sky
With local and international traditional Wau Bulan and kite enthusiasts joining in the fun under the sky and sun, the annual event is expected to attract thousands of visitors and exhibitors.
Some foreign participants teach school children about facts of kites, exposing them to the stories and origins behind the different kite shapes and designs. For instancem Australian aborigines would paint their own tribal representations onto the kites; an expression of their culture and who they are.
The World Kite Festival (Festival Layang-layang Sedunia) also sees some participants performing the 'Lollipop Drop' where a cartoon-shaped pouch attached to a huge kite is pulled open by string and lollipops and candies will fall from the pouch.

Children (and some adults) would then scramble to catch the sweets during the stunt.
A lot of the kitemakers will come up with their own designs and sketches, hand-painted and intricately made to showcase the cultures - including Malaysia's very own Wau Bulan.
