The Bukit Batu Maung military fortress, built in the 1930's fell under a surprise attack by the Japanese army. Once abandoned, this fortress is now one of the largest War Museums in the region.

This spectacular aquarium and fisheries reseearch centre, located off Jalan Batu Maung provides a good view of the marine life to be found in Malaysian tropical waters.
