"The Dutch captured the strategic hill in 1784 and were to remain for 10 years; they rebuilt it and renamed the lighthouse after their governor-general."
Discover the history of the legendary hill of Melawati. Located atop the hill, the Altingsburg Lighthouse is a Dutch historical remain. The landmark is worth a day trip since it is situated near several historical monuments such as Meriam Selangor (Selangor Cannon); it is also a nesting site for white-bellied sea-eagles.
It was from this vantage spot that the Dutch surveyed the surrounding countryside before capturing it in 1784. In the vicinity is a royal mausoleum where three past sultans of Selangor are buried.
Panoramic views of the Straits of Melaka and the mangrove swamps of Kuala Selangor can also be enjoyed from here.
