"For many locals, the Tower signifies the progress made by Kedah in today's modern and sophisticated technological era."
The Alor Setar Tower is city's tallest landmark, a structure that stands out over the rest. Besides serving as a state-of-the-art telecommunications tower, the Tower offers the public a chance to enjoy a panoramic view that stretches from Gunung Jerai (formerly known as Kedah Peak) to the Straits of Melaka.
The amazing design and architecture of the Alor Setar Tower has its own beauty, function and purpose. The vertical structure enables the tower to withstand the wind and other natural elements. The Alor Setar Tower also symbolises the progressing state of Kedah.
Rice plays a major role in the culture in Kedah, not only because it is the staple food for Malaysians, but it is entrenched in the state's agrigarian heritage. The Tower's platform allows visitors to enjoy a breathtaking view, starting with the peak of Kedah, stretching outward to the Straits of Melaka. From the tower, you will see vast expanses of paddy fields which lies outside of Alor Setar - an amazing view especially during harvest time. In terms of structure design, the wide space of the observation deck permits a large number of visitors to enjoy the unlimited view before them.
The Tower is the most modern and most prominent landmark for Kedah, which is presently undergoing rapid development. Standing at 165.5 metres tall, the Alor Setar Tower is the pride of the people of Kedah Darul Aman in particular, and Malaysians in general. With the opening of the Tower, the state of Kedah looks to the world of telecommunications and the era of high technology and opportunity, whilst creating, in the process, a significant contribution to the industrialisation agenda of the country.
Without doubt, communication tools give us a better understanding of our environment, given today's fast paced development. Its aim is to receive and transmit electronic data at the rate of millions of pulses per hour, billions in a day, thus creating the wider access possible to information.
