"The Wang Kelian State Park is a haven for nature lovers and ecotourism enthusiasts as it contains one of the few semi-deciduous forests in the country."

The Wang Kelian State Park is a haven for nature lovers and ecotourism enthusiasts as it contains one of the few semi-deciduous forests in the country, similar to the ones across the border in Thailand.

Covering 1,000ha. in the Mata Air Forest Reserve, its limestone forests are also rich in fauna, including birds, mammals and reptiles. As a matter of fact, the Wang Kelian State Park poses a challenging jungle trek from the camping area that leads to the Wang Burma cave system.

As the park is closely located to the Thai border, visitors to the park also take the opportunity to do some bargain hunt for good from across the border at a nearby trading centre.

Getting there
From the North South Expressway, take the Jitra Selatan exit (Interchange 181) and get onto the trunk road headed for Kodiang and Kangar (Highway K3). Kuala Perlis is 48km from this exit. Public transportation connecting Kuala Perlis and Kangar is also available daily. The bus fare is RM1.50 while taxi fare is RM8 per person. From Kangar town, drive north towards Kaki Bukit and follow the sign to the state park.
User recommendation

"Although it's rather a newly developed state park, for a nature lover there are lots to be seen and appreciated - the natural forests, the beautiful granite hill structures, caves and underwater caves, jungle tracks and the varieties of wild animals that are found there are the attractions. Its close proximity to the Thai border is another attraction where business activities are done on every weekend. Through the local population much more information could be gathered of the histories and cultures of Malaysia and Thailand particularly the people of Perlis and people of the southern state of Thailand."   by ahmaf puzi bin abd rahman
