"
Visit the Veg Fish Farm Thai Restaurant for a taste of fresh seafood cooked in authentic Thai style served with a warm bout of Thai hospitality!"
As you drive along the Jalan Ampang-Hulu Langat road, you can’t miss the small but prominent signage for this restaurant. Enter the narrow entry point. A five-minute drive from the entrance will take you past a rough, rocky and winding road. The reward of this rough ride is well worth it. The road leads to a very scenic view of the organic farm and some rows of pretty sunflowers.
And then you have the restaurant. Arranged around the rectangular fish farm pond, the restaurant’s atap roof and wooden architecture gives a cosy yet rustic feel to the place. The breeze from fans placed strategically under the thatched roofs provides respite from the tropical heat. This is not a place to be dressed in warm clothings or in your best finery. Light casual wear is highly recommended.
Children can keep themselves amused by feeding the 10 species of fish in the pond. The fish pellets are sold for RM2 per packet.
According to Nathan, the polite and friendly Thai restaurant manager, the food is normally served 5 minutes after ordering. This is due to the well-organised kitchen divided into specialised sections such as fried, steamed, grilled and desserts. The chef and most of the waiting staff are Thai nationals. As such, as you enjoy your meal, you will hear gentle and sing-song Thai chatter and Thai songs blaring from the loudspeakers ingeniously made out of engine oil containers. You will start wonder if you are not actually in Thailand.
As remote as the place may seem, it has a healthy lunch crowd every day. After 6pm every day, it will be very full especially on Saturday nights. On Sunday, it is very crowded the whole day long. The restaurant has 60 tables and can accommodate 500 people at any one time.
The dishes are priced from RM8 to RM20 each. Only organic vegetables sourced from their own farm and the nearby markets are used. Nathan recommends the BBQ fish cooked in Thai style.
“The skin is salted lightly and not burned, leaving the flesh soft to taste and not very salty,” he explains.
Another popular order amongst their regular patrons is the Steamed Lemon and Spicy Fish in Thai Style.
During non-busy times, the Thai chef can accommodate special customised orders from customers.
After a hearty and delicious meal, you must try the authentic Thai desserts such as the refreshing Mango pudding and delectable Pandan Cendol which cools down your body temperature while giving your palate a sweet treat.
You can also purchase Thai products, snacks and fresh fruits from the stalls at the restaurant entrance.
The Veg Fish Farm Thai Restaurant has three other branches in Selayang, the Ampang Lookout Point and Happy Garden.
