"With over 100,000 items, Penang's Toy Museum is reputed to be the first and largest museum dedicated to the world of collectible toys and figurines in Asia!" Reputed to be Asia's first and largest museum dedicated to collectible models, toys and figurines, the Penang Toy Museum is one of the must-see attractions if you happen to be in the Tanjung Bungah area. With more than 100,000 collectibles of international brands, the toy museum delights both young and old. You're just as likely to hear a 45 year-old Star Trek enthusiast exclaim in awe at the miniature Star Trek space crafts as you would a 6 year-old bubbling over the giant-sized 'Stitch' doll.

Among the collectibles that you will see at the museum are the figurines from various computer game characters including Dragon Ball, Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy. There are also impressive collections of miniatures and figurines from tv shows and movies such as the X-Files and Scooby Doo.

One of the highlights of the museum is the Chamber of Horrors, which features figurines and collectibles from horror movies. Hear the chilling maniacal laughter of Freddy Kruger, the villain from the horror movie, Nightmare on Elm Street, as you step in front of its display case. Other quirky and endearing characters you'll see there include the gothic collection of dolls from Mezco Toys, featuring the Loving Dead Dolls.

The museum also features audio and kinetic capabilities whereby sound clips from the particular character is played once the motion sensors built into these figurines detect movements from the visitors. Some of these figurines are also movable at the activation of its motion sensors.

Opens 9.00am to 9.00pm daily. Entrance fees are RM10 for adults and RM6 for children below 12 years old.

For more information, please contact the Toy Museum at 012-4602096 (Mr. Loh) Last viewed - July 20, 2008

Getting there
The Toy Museum is located between the Copthorne Orchid Hotel and the Penang Swimming Club, along Jalan Tanjung Bungah. From George Town, drive north past Gurney Drive into Jalan Jalan Tanjung Tokong. Then follow that road into Jalan Tanjung Bungah. Drive past the Penang Swimming Club and look out for the Toy Museum on your right hand side and you won't miss the unique Egyptian motif building just before the Copthorne Orchid Hotel.
