"Mersing Jetty is the preferred staging point for the northern and eastern clusters of islands whereas the southern cluster of islands should be accessed via Tanjung Leman jetty."

The preferred staging point for the clusters of pristine islands off the east coast of Johor, Mersing Jetty provides access to the Rawa, Pemanggil, Dayang, Aur, and Besar Islands. Other islands including Tinggi, Apil, Sibu Besar and Sibu Tengah should be accessed via Tanjung Leman jetty, about 60km south of Mersing. The Mersing Boat Hire Association provides boats for inter-island travel or fishing. The Marine Park Information Centre (open from 8a.m. to 4.30p.m., Mondays to Fridays and 8a.m. to 12.3p.m. on Saturdays) located on Jalan Tun Dr. Ismail, close to the Mersing Express Bus Terminal, is a good place to start if you want to find out more about Johor's islands before visiting them.

A visit to Mersing Jetty in the early hours of the morning will reveal why it is a favourite spot for photographers, with the many fishing boats docking in to haul their catch for the morning market, providing an interesting rustic background. For more information about Mersing, please contact the Mersing Tourist Information Centre (METIC) at (607) 7995212.

Getting there
From Johor Bahru city centre take the Johor Bahru-Kota Tinggi trunk road and then Kota Tinggi-Mersing trunk road. From North-South Expressway take the Ayer Hitam exit (Interchange 244) and drive towards toward Kluang and onwards using the Kluang-Jemaluang trunk road. After Jemaluang town, get onto the Kota Tinggi-Mersing trunk road, heading towards Mersing. Look out for signboards that will lead you to Mersing Jetty.
User recommendation

"intresting"

"I have very happy memories of this area. In 1960-70 a group of us who were working in Singapore spent many idyllic weekends camping out on the deserted islands off the coast of Mersing. Now a few of us would like to return for a holiday. We've heard of some 'budget' accommodation being available on these islands. Can anyone give us details of how to book this? Thanks."   by Shireen
